However, Myanmar steel producers cannot meet domestic demand, so the country's steel products are more dependent on imports.
In 2019, Myanmar imported more than 1.9 million tons of finished steel products, of which long products accounted for 57%, uncoated hot-rolled and cold-rolled flat products accounted for 13%, and coated steel accounted for 30%. In order to reduce dependence on imports, Myanmar plans to increase steel production capacity by building and expanding steel mills.
