It was learned that the purchase of hot rolled ABS grade A steel coils by German and Biholu economic union buyers has been postponed at present, as stocks still seem to be adequate and ABS grade A steel price trends are not clear.
"Not too clear" actually means that ABS grade A steel prices may remain stable or weak, but buyers do not think they will rise. The general manager of a German company said: "International steel mills are trying to keep the price of hot rolled coils at 550 euros per ton ($630 per ton)" and said that "there are quotations below that level".
A Holland market source said, "I heard people didn't purchase because the inventory was very high." Many German market participants agree with this view. One trader thought that ABS grade A steel stocks were "higher than planned", so people wanted to wait another week or two, thinking that ABS grade A steel prices might fall. Market participants confirmed that 540 Euro/ton was the actual transaction price, but did not quote a lower price, nor excluded a higher price than 550 Euro/ton.
"Both sides are watching," said a service center manager. "We are finalizing the first half of the contract negotiations, but we need to wait for big ABS grade A steel companies to reach some deals for reference." It is reported that the first large contract price is about 540 euro / ton, basically the same price as last year.
The manager of the service center said, "The question now is: can we get lower-priced ABS grade A steel resources in three weeks?"
