Grade A: This grade is typically used for ordinary strength shipbuilding applications. It has a minimum yield strength of 34,000 psi (235 MPa).
Grade B: This grade offers increased strength compared to Grade A and is suitable for ships operating at moderate temperatures. It has a minimum yield strength of 34,000 psi (235 MPa).
Grade D: This grade is known for its higher tensile strength and toughness compared to Grades A and B. It has a minimum yield strength of 34,000 psi (235 MPa).
Grade AH36, DH36, EH36: These high-strength grades are specifically designed for shipbuilding and have excellent weldability and impact resistance. They offer a minimum yield strength of 51,000 psi (355 MPa) and ultimate tensile strength ranging from 71,000 to 90,000 psi (490-620 MPa).
Grade FH36: This grade provides high-strength properties similar to AH36, DH36, and EH36 but with improved corrosion resistance. It has a minimum yield strength of 51,000 psi (355 MPa) and ultimate tensile strength ranging from 71,000 to 90,000 psi (490-620 MPa).
The ASTM A131 material is predominantly used for shipbuilding due to its excellent combination of strength, weldability, and corrosion resistance.
